All Education Majors

Carl P. and Erma W. Dunifon Education Schol. Fund:

Applicants must demonstrate academic achievement, demonstrate financial need for scholarship assistance, must be enrolled as a full time student in the College of Education at the University of Oklahoma with preference being given to relatives of Carl P. Dunifon or Erma W. Dunifon and to unmarried students without children.

Dallas Area Education Alumni Scholarship Fund:

Applicants must be full-time, regularly enrolled students in the College of Education; provided, however, that no scholarship may be awarded to or for the direct benefit of the Donor or any member of the immediate family of the Donor. Any eligible deserving undergraduate or graduate student is qualified for either an initial award or a subsequent award if, in the opinion of the selection committee, the student is making satisfactory progress toward graduation and the student needs supplemental financial assistance. For purpose of this scholarship, satisfactory progress shall be deemed to be the achievement of and maintenance of at least a 3.0 overall GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Elizabeth Raye Hazlewood Memorial Scholarship:

Preference is given to any qualified education major or nursing major; must have achieved and maintained a 3.00 GPA or higher; must demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance and possess either artistic or musical talents.  Applicants should submit sample(s) of talent (art samples, a video, or a tape) and a short written introduction of themselves and their future.

Frank and Dyan Agar Scholarship Fund:

Applicants must be regularly enrolled in the College of Education, must achieve and maintain a 3.0 overall grade point average and demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance.

Hannah Foreman Davis Scholarship Fund:

Applicants must be residents of Oklahoma; must be regularly enrolled full-time in the College of Education; must achieve and maintain a 3.0 overall GPA; must demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance as determined by qualification for either a grant or subsidized student loan through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.

Jeanne Reeder Perkins Scholarship Fund:

All individuals who are full-time, regularly enrolled students in the University of Oklahoma are eligible for this scholarship; provided, however, that no scholarship may be awarded to or for the direct benefit of the Donor or any member of the immediate family of the Donor. Any eligible deserving undergraduate or graduate student who is committed to completing the elementary education program and becoming a fully certified teacher is qualified, student is making satisfactory progress toward graduation and the student needs supplemental financial assistance. Student has achieved and maintained at least a 3.0 combined retention grade point average on a 4.0 system.

Jeannine T. Rainbolt Scholarship Fund:

All individuals who are residents of the state of Oklahoma, full-time, regularly enrolled students in the University of Oklahoma are eligible for this scholarship; provided, however, that no scholarship may be awarded to or for the direct benefit of the Donor or any member of the immediate family of the Donor. Any eligible deserving undergraduate or graduate student who is committed to completing the elementary education program and becoming a fully certified teacher is qualified, student is making satisfactory progress toward graduation and the student needs supplemental financial assistance. Student has achieved and maintained at least a 3.0 combined retention grade point average on a 4.0 system. Each Jeannine T. Rainbolt Scholar shall be expected to submit to the donor a one-page report of his/her activities at the end of each academic year during which he/she is receiving the scholarship.

Leah Copass Brakebill Scholarship:

Awarded to a fine young woman with high ideals and broad interests who enjoys painting and is preparing to teach in a public school. Applicant must provide two (2) letters of recommendation from a person familiar with her artistic talents and also other supporting evidence of artistic talent. College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma only.

Parks Memorial Scholarship Fund:

Preference is given to applicants who are direct descendants of Oklahoma pioneers. In the event no qualified candidate can be found, the selection committee will select a qualified second generation Oklahoma born student;the recipient must also be a full-time student in good standing enrolled in the College of Education (Sophomore standing or higher). Note: Please use the Parks Memorial Scholarship Fund application!

Patricia Elaine Rigney Scholarship Fund:

All individuals who are full-time, regularly enrolled students in the University of Oklahoma are eligible for this scholarship; provided, however, that no scholarship may be awarded to or for the direct benefit of the Donor or any member of the immediate family of the Donor. Any eligible deserving undergraduate or graduate student who is committed to completing a degree in Education and becoming a fully certified teacher is qualified, student is making satisfactory progress toward graduation and the student needs supplemental financial assistance. Student has achieved and maintained at least a 3.0 combined retention grade point average on a 4.0 system. Preference shall be given to candidates from homes where both parents are teachers; however, in the absence of such qualified candidates, the selection committee shall make the award on its own discretion while honoring the donor’s basic intent.

Virginia Hallum Trust Award:

Open to all education majors. Student must be fully admitted to teacher education program and in good standing. Sophomore standing or higher.

Teaching Profession

College of Education Undergraduate Scholarship Award:

Awarded on basis of academic performance and interest in the teaching profession to College of Education majors minimum GPA of 3.0; sophomore standing or higher.

Dawn M. Glitsch Memorial Scholarship Fund:

The recipient should be aggressive, show a keen interest in the education process, and have a desire for a career in the teaching field. Additional requirements are: Must be a full-time student in good standing enrolled in a College of Education teacher certification program (sophomore standing or higher); be a US citizen; maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale; have completed at least 30 hours of course work at the University of Oklahoma.

Future Teacher Scholarship Program (Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education):

Linda Daly, Student Services is contact person.  She will announce this scholarship at a later date. Must be an Oklahoma resident who graduated in the top 15 percent of his/hr high school graduating class or have scored at or above the 85 percentile on the ACT or similar battery of tests; must be eligible for admission to or be making satisfactory progress in a professional education program at the University of Oklahoma; priority will be given to full-time students but part-time students who have completed 30 semester hours in their teacher education program are eligible; must plan a teaching career in a critical teacher shortage area identified in the state of Oklahoma (contact the College of Education Student Services 405-325-2238 or the State Regents office for current year content areas).

Judith Bratcher Crockett Scholarship in Education:

Applicants must be residents of Oklahoma; Must be regularly enrolled full-time in the College of Education; must achieve and maintain a 3.0 overall GPA; must demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance as certified by the University of Oklahoma Office of Financial Aid. Preference will be given to students majoring in Teacher Preparation.

Nadine R. Vincent Scholarship Fund:

Must be a full-time student in good standing enrolled in a College of Education teacher education program who has achieved and maintained at least a 3.0 combined retention grade point average on a 4.0 system. Student should demonstrate financial need.

Intern or Student Teaching

College of Education Associates Award:

Students who are scheduled to intern or student teach during the Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 semesters should apply. Those applicants must meet Graduate College admission requirements with plans to complete the graduate certification component in the next academic year.

OU College of Education Alumni and Friends Association:

Candidates must be currently enrolled in the University of Oklahoma College of Education; have a GPA of 3.25 or better; completed their junior year in the University of Oklahoma College of Education; scholarship funds are to be used for the intern semester and will be dispersed at the beginning of the intern semester.

Teach America Tomorrow Award:

Students who are scheduled to intern or student teach during the Fall 2007 or Spring 2008 semesters should apply. Those applicants must meet Graduate College admission requirements with plans to complete the graduate certification component in the next academic year.

Early Childhood Education Majors

B.H. Taylor Scholarship:

Early Childhood Education majors. Available to undergraduates with a GPA of 2.50; must be a full-time student and an Oklahoma resident; sophomore standing or higher. College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma only.

Garnett Fittro Award:

Award is given in recognition of excellence in pre-school teaching.

Joanne Hendrick Early Childhood Endowed Schol. Fund:

Early Childhood Education major. The recipient must be an undergraduate, single parent majoring in Early Childhood Education. To be considered for a scholarship, the potential recipient must have a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and have demonstrated promise as a teacher of young children. Sophomore or higher College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma only.

Lila Merle Welch Memorial Fund:

Early Childhood Education majors. Relatives of donor are given preference. Must have at least a 2.5 GPA; sophomore standing or higher. College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma only.

Mary and Erin Reed Scholarship:

Must be Early Childhood Education majors enrolled at OU only; must show future potential as an early childhood teacher; must have received a "B" or better as the student teaching grade in EDEC 3213; junior standing or higher.

Mary Marie Cunningham Scholarship:

Intern scholarship for Early Childhood Education majors.

Elementary Education Majors

Blanche Honaker Brakebill Scholarship:

Awarded to one or two young women who plan to work with children as an elementary school teacher in a public school. Sophomore standing or higher. College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma.

English Education Majors

Diane Holt-Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund:

English/Language Arts Education majors.  Applicants must be regularly enrolled in the College of Education; must achieve and maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance.

Frances Ranson Dunham Scholarship Fund:

A graduate student seeking a master’s degree in English Education or for an undergraduate student seeking certification in Language Arts with either a B.A. or a B.S. Must be a resident of Oklahoma and a full-time, regularly enrolled student in the College of Education; must maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA and demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance.

Clara Rusk Hastings Scholarship Trust:

Secondary Education majors: Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Recipients are to be juniors or seniors and College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma only.

Diane Holt-Reynolds Memorial Scholarship Fund:

English/Language Arts Education majors.  Applicants must be regularly enrolled in the College of Education; must achieve and maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance.

Frances Ranson Dunham Scholarship Fund:

A graduate student seeking a master’s degree in English Education or for an undergraduate student seeking certification in Language Arts with either a B.A. or a B.S. Clara Rusk Hastings Scholarship Trust:

Secondary Education majors: Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Recipients are to be juniors or seniors and College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma only.

Eunice Lewis Mathematics Education Schol.:

All full-time, regularly students enrolled in the College of Education at OU who are majoring in Mathematics Education are eligible for consideration for this scholarship. Must achieve and maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA and demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance.

Rosa Brink and Shirley Brink Holladay Scholarship Fund:

Applicant is a full-time, regularly enrolled student with a minimum of 90 hours complete and is a declared Education major at OU.  Eligible undergraduate or graduate students that maintain at least a 3.0 overall GPA; recipients are to be students who are children of active or retired Oklahoma Public School Teachers and secondary preference to students who are children of active or retired Texas Public School Teachers.  Preference given to students who plan a career in disciplines in reading education, science education or mathematics education.

Science Education Majors

Clara Rusk Hastings Scholarship Trust:

Secondary Education majors: Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Recipients are to be juniors or seniors and College of Education majors enrolled at the University of Oklahoma only.

Landra and Grant Rezabek Scholarship Fund:

Science Education majors. The recipient must be a full-time undergraduate, majoring in Science Education. Student must be a resident of Oklahoma who has graduated from a State of Oklahoma accredited high school. To be considered for this scholarship, the potential recipient must achieve and maintain a 3.50 overall grade point average on a 4.00 scale.

Ruby Grant Reading Scholarship:

Applicants must be teacher education students who will be responsible for teaching children to read;  regularly enrolled in the College of Education; must maintain a 3.0 overall GPA and demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance.

Sherry S. Steele Scholarship Fund:

Applicants must be full-time regularly enrolled in the College of Education; must achieve and maintain a 3.0 grade point average; must demonstrate need for supplemental financial assistance, must be female and majoring in the TE-PLUS program.
