Elementary Education
Master's Degree
The purpose of the master's degree in elementary education is to provide advanced professional education and specialized academic work designed to further the professional competence level of teachers in elementary schools.
Core (11 hrs minimum)

Studies in Cultural Diversity (2-3 hrs)
Research ( 6 hrs)
Research Synthesis (0-3 hrs)
Concentration (20 hrs minimum)
The elementary education program has moved from a generalist focus to specific emphasis options.
Emphasis Options (15 hrs)
Language Literacy Education
Mathematics Education
Science Education
Social Studies Education
Teacher Leadership in Elementary/Middle Education
Electives (6 hrs)
Graduate coursework as appropriate to the emphasis option, as approved by the adviser.
Doctoral Degree
Core (23-24 hrs minimum)

Specialization (36 hrs minimum)
Elementary Education
Coursework in elementary education, such as issues, curriculum, pedagogy and research, as approved by the student's adviser and committee.
Education and Related Areas
Coursework in education and related areas that support the student's professional goals, such as learning theory, developmental processes, technology, and other specific subject areas (e.g., reading), as approved by the student's adviser and committee.
Content Areas
In consultation with the adviser and committee, the student may select coursework from the various concentrations inside or outside the College of Education.
