Alternative Certification Track

Register with the Oklahoma SDE:
- Complete application for alternative program
- Document education related professional experience
- Provide all college transcripts
- OSDE will determine licensure area based on college coursework

Must pass the Oklahoma Professional exams:
- Oklahoma general education test (OGET)
- Oklahoma subject area test (OSAT)
- Oklahoma professional teaching exam (OPTE)

Must submit fingerprints for FBI/OSBI clearance

Following receipt fo OSDE letter...
- Following receipt of OSDE letter admitting student to program, passing OGET and OSAT candidate must meet with the Teacher Competency Review Panel (TCRP)

Must be admitted...
- Must be admitted to OU graduate college - 3.0 GPA required

Before taking classes in the OU College of Education...
- Before taking classes in the OU College of Education you must be admitted to the OU graduate college adn provide proof of acceptance into the Oklahoma Alternative Teacher Certification Program. The following paperwork must be on file with student services in order to register for coursework:
- The letter admitting you to the Oklahoma Alternative Certification Teacher Program
- The subject area recommendation and feedback in the letter from the TCRP
- Admission letter from the OU graduate college

You will meet with...
- You will meet with Associate Dean for Professional Education and/or the program coordinators for the area(s) of recommended certification to develop a plan of study. You will sign a contract stating that you will complete the program of study.

Following successful completion...
- Following successful completion of a year of teaching and passing the OPTE and the required education coursework for the OU alternative certification track, a 5-year teacher certificate can be obtained.
In order to complete the alternative certification track at OU, you must finish the program of study. You can go on line and look at course offerings for the summer fall and spring at https://enroll.ou.edu/oe/
There you will need to select the campus and semester. Use the guest login. Once you get to the next screen, you will need to indicate the department, the course level and the status. This will give you all the courses that are available.
- First, contact the instructor of record and let them know you are an alternative certification track student and want to take the class.
- Second, make sure you have been accepted by the graduate program and admitted to the graduate college.
- Then you will be able to enroll for the course on the first day the class is scheduled to meet.
